Illusion Theater presents Crash Dance Productions

Local dance company Crash Dance Productions (CDP) is the first semi-professional company to bring contemporary lyrical to the Twin Cities. After its debut show in January 2008 at the Illusion Theater in the Hennepin Center for the Arts, word about the group spread quickly throughout the Minneapolis arts scene. Twenty-five talented dancers are now rehearsing for their second season "As We Are", which will run June 20-21 at the Illusion Theater.

 
Milwaukee Mask & Puppet Theatre to perform The Ballad of Josef K at Illusion Theater

(Minneapolis, MN) The Ballad of Josef K, a musical adaptation of Franz Kafka's The Trial, will be performed at Illusion Theater during May by the Milwaukee Mask and Puppet Theatre. Life-sized puppets perform the tale of Josef K, a bank clerk who finds himself accused of unknown crimes. As he struggles to discover the nature of the charges against him and establish his innocence, he only becomes further entangled in the inexplicable world of a secret court.

 
Illusion Theater presents Autistic License for Autism Awareness Month

Jeffrey Hatcher's Mrs. Mannerly opens at Illusion

First introduced to audiences during last summer's Fresh Ink Series, Mrs. Mannerly emerges from the incorrigibly funny imagination of Illusion Theater audience favorite Jeffrey Hatcher. Inspired by an etiquette class from his youth, Hatcher creates a world of seven-year-olds studying manners in which one student in the class stands out, the one with the Double-O-Seven briefcase. Directed by Illusion's Producing Director Michael Robins, the production stars Barbara June Patterson and Phyllis Wright.

 
Illusion & Pillsbury House Theatres work together to produce rare gem

Illusion Theater and Pillsbury House Theatre will co-produce Samuel G. Roberson Jr.'s first play, Same Difference, in February 2008. Featuring actors Jermaine Small and Darien Johnson, Same Difference will be directed by Anton Jones with James A. Williams serving as a Creative Advisor to the production.

 
The Lighthouse presents the 2008 Lights Up! Series
This year the Lighthouse Group, part of Illusion Theater, will light up the dark days of January with the Lights Up! Series. The Lighthouse Group is an ensemble of young artists committed to supporting emerging artists and producing new work. Noah Bremer, Nathan Christopher, Ellen Fenster, Katie Guentzel, Lindsay Hinman, Kris Lencowski and Claudia Vazquez comprise the group. 2008 marks the third year of the Lighthouse Group's Lights Up! Series. This year they present three vastly different performance pieces that showcase their individual talents.

 
Martini & Olive Celebrate the New Year at Illusion

Illusion Theater celebrates Hanukah with

Following last year's success, Illusion will present this year's edition of Festival of Lights, a holiday show that celebrates the music, stories and miracles of Hanukah. A production for the entire family, Festival of Lights celebrates Hanukah through the work of Jewish playwrights, gently probing the holiday with a contemporary point of view and a wry sense of humor. Adding to the fun are updated takes on traditional Hanukah melodies as well as newly-minted songs.

 
Just Another Season at Illusion Theater

(Minneapolis, Minnesota) Illusion Theater today announced its 2007-2008 Season. It features three high-spirited, boisterous shows for the holidays, a new play by veteran playwright Jeffrey Hatcher; a co-production with Pillsbury House Theatre of a new work and a presentation of a Kafka-inspired puppet show. In addition, Illusion will also offer its two new work series, Lights Up! and Fresh Ink. Now in its 33rd season, Producing Directors Michael Robins and Bonnie Morris think this season is filled with what you’ve come to expect at Illusion: The unexpected. “From personal stories about Hanukah and what being Jewish in Minnesota means to the insights of African-American young men in college to the out-and-out fun of the imagination of Jeff Hatcher, we are sure you will have a great night in the theater,” says Morris.
